On January 24th, Town Square Television in Inver Grove Heights, MN, proudly hosted Chapter 17 of the Society of Broadcast Engineers. The SBE chapter opted for a hybrid meeting format, allowing participation from other chapters across the Midwest region. It was a fantastic opportunity for broadcast professionals to connect, share insights, and broaden their working knowledge.
The meeting's agenda focused on pivotal aspects of government video operations, including workflows, security, content delivery networks, and more. Chris Morgan, the Midwest Regional Sales Manager for Cablecast, led an insightful presentation. He navigated topics such as cybersecurity, streamlining cross-platform content delivery, IP video transport workflows, and reliable streaming solutions designed to protect access to the public's media assets.
Chris didn't just talk theory; he brought real success stories to the table. He highlighted the work of HPAT in Hibbing, MN, showcasing how they've leveraged SRT and HLS workflows to extend municipal meeting coverage to more residents and even neighboring towns. Another standout story was the 2023 Hometown TV live stream, illustrating how a Cablecast VIO Stream video server and an AJA HELO H.264 stream encoder were utilized to manage an SRT feed from Brooklyn, NY, to Portland, ME, and distribute nationwide live coverage via an HLS stream.
