Online viewership is up, but revenue hasn’t kept pace. For municipal video teams, finding efficient, low-maintenance ways to monetize digital content is a great way to generate income. That’s where the new paywall feature for Cablecast Internet Channels for REFLECT+ users comes in—now it’s easy to monetize your web presence without adding extra work to your plate. Cablecast showed off these new features coming to Cablecast 7.10 in a preview at the 2025 Alliance for Community Media National Conference at Boston University.
Turn Viewers into Subscribers
With the new paywall feature for Cablecast Internet Channels, which will be available in the next Cablecast software update, you can start charging for access to your content in just a few clicks. Want to make only certain videos paywalled? You can. Want to gate your whole channel? That works for both live and VOD content, too.
Viewer access is managed via email-based memberships. There are two flexible ways to handle sign-ups: upload a member list via CSV or let users sign up and pay directly through Stripe. There’s no custom development or complicated setup. Instead, it’s a clean, email-based experience with instant access via magic links, so your viewers don’t have to worry about passwords or logins.
A paywall unlocks a sustainable revenue stream for stations without the overhead. It's ideal for educational content, community events, or any premium programming that goes beyond your standard government meetings.
Another New Way to Monetize
In addition to paywall access, Cablecast now lets you add pre-roll video messages before your main content, which is another effortless way to generate revenue. Just assign a playlist of short underwriting or sponsor shout-outs in Cablecast, and the system will handle the rest, randomly selecting a message to play before each video.
These pre-rolls run on Cablecast Internet Channels and embedded players around the web. There’s no extra coding, no third-party integration, and full playback reporting is included, giving your station a turnkey way to acknowledge support and highlight sponsors to your streaming audience.
Turn your online operations into a revenue-positive asset for your city, with a lightweight, scalable workflow that lets you focus on creating and delivering quality programming to your community.
